The aims of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) are to conduct, develop, coordinate, and stimulate laboratory and clinical research in Europe to improve the management of cancer and related problems by increasing survival but also patients' quality of life.
European School of Oncology (ESO) was founded by Umberto Veronesi and Laudomia Del Drago in 1982, with the aim of contributing to the reduction of deaths from cancer due to late diagnosis and/or inadequate treatment. ESO's mission is reflected in its motto "Learning to Care," which stresses the concept of studying and learning and also of caring for the patient in a global sense.
The European Association for Cancer Research (EACR) has always had one guiding aim 'The advancement of cancer research'. In pursuing this aim, the Association provides services to members, presents educational, training and scientific meeting opportunities, and facilitates communication and collaboration between the cancer researchers who make up its membership. It also sets out to raise the profile of cancer research and cancer researchers in Europe and the need for sustained political and economic support.
With almost 8,000 members, the EACR is Europe's largest member society for cancer research. The Association enjoys particularly strong links with other European cancer societies and is a founder member of the European Cancer Organisation (ECCO).
Uphold the right of all European cancer patients to the best possible treatment and care
Promote interaction between all organisations involved in cancer research, education, treatment and care at the European level.
It does this by:
Creating awareness of patients needs and wishes
Encouraging progressive thinking in cancer policy, training and education
Promoting European cancer research through the organisation of international multidisciplinary meetings
The European Society of Breast Cancer Specialists was founded in Budapest in 1986 by a group of specialists in breast cancer, including Professor Veronesi (the Honorary President), to address the problems and requirements that exist in the area of breast disease.
