Article Types
The journal primarily publishes full-length papers describing original work but it will also accept a small number
of review articles. Short communications, not exceeding 1500 words, will be accepted for rapid publication.
Electronic submission
via the Web using EES
The preferred medium of submission to the accepting Editor is online with the accompanying manuscript, illustrations,
tables and annexes. Submission of a paper to the Journal of Neuroimmunology is understood to imply that it has not previously
been published (except in abstract form) and that it is not being published elsewhere. Submitted manuscripts should be accompanied by
a statement undersigned by all listed authors that they concur with the submission and that the manuscript has been approved by the responsible
authorities where the work was carried out. If accepted, the manuscript shall not be published elsewhere in the same form in either the
same or any other language, without the consent of the Editor and Publisher. The decision of the Editor is final. The Editor cannot enter
into correspondence about a paper considered unsuitable for publication.

the 2010 Elsevier Awards for Young Investigators, please indicate this in your submission and be sure to attach a letter of eligibility.
Journal of Neuroimmunology uses an online, electronic submission system called EES (Elsevier Editorial System). By accessing
the following website
http://ees.elsevier.com/jni
you will be guided stepwise through the creation and uploading
of the various files. When submitting a manuscript to EES, authors need to provide an electronic version of their manuscript. The author
should select a set of classifications from a list, a category designation for their manuscript (original article, review, letter to
the editor, short communication, etc.) and may provide keywords and comments to the Editor separately. Details of up to five potential
reviewers should accompany the submission. These can be provided in the comments box or at a later stage when uploading the files for
submission. It would not be appropriate to nominate individuals that have had any input into the manuscripts submitted or any recent
collaboration with the authors. The Editors may or may not take these suggestions into account during the reviewing process.
Authors may send queries concerning the submission process, manuscript status, or journal procedures to the Editorial Office (e-mail:
jni@aecom.yu.edu). Once the uploading is done, the system automatically generates an electronic (PDF) proof, which is then used for reviewing.
All correspondence, including the Editor's decision and request for revisions, will be by e-mail.
Hardcopy manuscript submission
If online submission is not a feasible option, manuscripts may still be sent first class mail to the Editor-in-Chief: Prof. C.S. Raine,
Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Dept. of Pathology, F140, 1300 Morris Park Avenue, New York, NY 10461, USA. Three print-out copies
of the manuscript, written in English, must be submitted in double-spaced typing on pages of uniform size (preferably A4 or 8"x11").
Do not submit a diskette with the first submission of your manuscript. The name and full postal address, including fax number and e-mail
address, of the author to whom proofs are to be sent should be given. N.B. Manuscripts and figures for review will not be returned to
authors whether the editorial decision is to accept, revise, or reject. The only exception will occur when the Editor returns a manuscript
with handwritten editorial suggestions to authors to aid them in making revisions.
When submitting the final version of your manuscript,
a diskette plus two, final, printed and exactly matching versions should be submitted together to the Editor-in-Chief. It is important
that the file on disk and the printout are identical. The Editor-in-Chief will then forward both to Elsevier.
Preparation
of Manuscripts
Manuscripts should be in the English language and should be typewritten with double spacing on one side of the
paper only. A short Abstract, not exceeding 100 words, should be on a separate sheet; it will appear at the beginning of the paper. A
list of 3-6 key words should appear underneath the Abstract. The title page should be a separate sheet, bearing title, author(s)' name(s)
and their full addresses, and a footnote with the corresponding author's Phone and Fax (and e-mail) number. As a rule, papers
should be divided into numbered sections, headed by a caption (e.g. Abstract; 1. Introduction; 2. Materials and Methods; 3. Results;
4. Discussion; References).
References
These should be cited in the text by author(s)' name(s) and year of publication
(Harvard System). When referring to a work of more than two authors, the name of the first author should be given, followed by et al.
Examples: (Emery, 1969); (Roy and Dubowitz, 1970); (Craig et al., 1978).
All references cited in the text should be given at the
end of the paper, typed with double spacing and arranged in alphabetical order of first author. More than one paper from the
same author(s) in the same year must be identified by the letters a, b, c, etc. placed after the year of publication.
References
must consist of names and initials of all authors, year, title of paper referred to, abbreviated title of periodicals, volume number,
and first and last page numbers.
Periodicals, books and edited books should accord with the following examples, respectively.

Journal titles should be abbreviated according to the List of Serial Title Word Abbreviations
(International Serials Data System, 20 rue Bachaumont, 75002 Paris, France. ISBN 2-904938-02-8).
This Journal should be cited
in the list of references as J. Neuroimmunol.
Figure and Table Legends
Legends should be typed double spaced
on a separate page and numbered with Arabic numerals corresponding to the illustrations. When symbols, arrows, numbers or letters are
used to identify parts of the illustrations, each should be explained clearly in the legend. The legends should permit the figures to
be understood with reference to the text. If the figure has been published previously a credit line should be included and at the time
of submission, a letter obtained from the original source approving reproduction of the material, should be included.
Figures
Figures of good quality should be submitted online as a separate file. Letters, numbers and symbols should be clear throughout and should
be large enough to permit photographic reduction.
If a figure cannot be submitted online, a hardcopy may be submitted in professionally
drawn, photograph or high-quality laser printed form.
Be sure that all spelling is correct, that there are no broken letters or uneven
type, and that abbreviations used are consistent with those in the text. Use a label on the back of each figure to indicate the article's
running title and the top of the figure. Do not write directly on the back of photographs. Do not trim, mount, clip or staple the illustrations.
Submit photomicrographs in the final desired size. The colour transparency or negative should be supplied, in addition to colour prints.
Photographs of recognizable persons should be accompanied by a signed release from the patient or legal guardian authorizing publication.
Masking eyes to hide identity is not sufficient.
The following are the standard specifications of the figures requested by
the typesetter to prevent looping of queries:
- .TIF file - 300-500 dpi line art
- .BITMAP - 1000-1200 dpi line art
Please note that the above given resolutions will depend on the actual size of the figure. Moreover, gray scale figures should
be from 300-500 dpi.
Colour Reproduction
For colour reproduction in print, a limited number of colour figures may
be printed in the Journal without cost, at the discretion of the Editor, who will make the judgement based on the academic necessity
of the colour illustrations. Otherwise you will receive information regarding the costs from Elsevier after receipt of your accepted

Colourful e-Products (CEPs)
If together with your accepted article, you submit usable colour figures then Elsevier will ensure,
at no additional charge, that these figures will appear in colour on the web (e.g. ScienceDirect) regardless of whether or not these
illustrations are reproduced in colour in the printed version.
Tables
Tables should be submitted online as a separate
file and should bear a short descriptive title.
In case of hardcopy, tables should be submitted on separate sheets of paper.
If
a table must exceed one typewritten page, duplicate all headings on the second sheet. Number tables in the order in which they are cited
in the text. Every column in the table should have an abbreviated heading. Define all abbreviations and indicate the units of measurements
for all values. Explain all empty spaces or dashes. Indicate footnotes to the table with the superscript symbols cited in order as you
read the table horizontally.
Preparation of Supplementary Material (MultiMedia Components)
Elsevier now accepts electronic
supplementary material to support and enhance your scientific research. Supplementary files offer the author additional possibilities
to publish supporting applications, movies, animation sequences, background datasets, sound clips and more. Supplementary files supplied
will be published online alongside the electronic version of your article in Elsevier web products, including ScienceDirect (http://www.sciencedirect.com).
In order to ensure that your submitted material is directly usable, please ensure that data is provided in one of our recommended file
formats. Files can be stored on 3? inch diskette, ZIP or Jaz-disk, or CD or DVD (either MS-Windows or Macintosh). Authors should submit
the material in electronic format together with the article and supply a concise and descriptive caption for each file. For more detailed

Funding body agreements and policies
Elsevier
has established agreements and developed policies to allow authors whose articles appear in journals published by Elsevier, to comply

Proofs
Proofs will be sent to the first-named
author of an article unless an alternative is requested on the title page of the manuscript. They should be checked carefully and returned
to the publisher by airmail within 2 days of receipt. Only typesetting errors may be corrected: no changes in or additions to the edited
original manuscript will be allowed at this stage.
Offprints
The corresponding author, at no cost, will be provided with
a PDF file of the article via e-mail or, alternatively, 25 free paper offprints. The PDF file is a watermarked version of the published
article and includes a cover sheet with the journal cover image and a disclaimer outlining the terms and conditions of use.
Reprints
Extra reprints may be ordered by completing and returning to the Publisher the order form sent with the proofs.
