Home Office Forensic Science Laboratory, Broadway West, Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne, England, NE3 5HL

(A paper read at the 7th International Meeting of Forensic Sciences, Zurich, September 1975, with the addition of experimental material on the assay of an anti-H reagent).

The H/anti-H reaction can be enhanced in routine ABO bloodstain grouping by the incorporation of a suitable level of Bovine Serum Albumin in the Group O indicator cell suspension. The experimental procedure for deciding a suitable concentration of Bovine Serum Albumin is described and the theoretical bases of the reaction are briefly discussed.
