ESPEN Information

The European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) is dedicated to all issues relevant to the field of clinical nutrition and metabolism and promotes:

• basic and clinical research
• basic and advanced education
• organization of consensus statements about clinical care and care quality control

The aims of ESPEN are to encourage the rapid diffusion of knowledge and its application in the field of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition or, more broadly, Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism.

ESPEN sponsors a journal and for which it assumes editorial, as distinct from publishing, responsibility.

It promotes experimental and clinical research, fosters high ethical standards of practice and investigation, and promotes contact between investigators and clinicians in related fields.

ABOUT JOURNAL OF CLINICAL NUTRITION

The official journal of the European Society of Parental and Enteral Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition is an international journal providing essential scientific information on nutritional and metabolic care and the relationship between nutrition and disease both in the setting of basic science and clinical practice. Published bi-monthly, each issue combines original articles, reviews and educational papers providing an invaluable reference for any specialist concerned with these fields.

The journal publishes regular supplements. In 1999 these included the Abstracts of the annual ESPEN Congress, and a joint publication of ESPEN and the British Association of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition supplement - Benefits of Nutritional Support in Hospitals and the Community.

The journal publishes original articles and review papers on those areas in acute disease which have metabolic and nutritional implications, and on those features of the metabolic responses to starvation, injury and sepsis which have relevance to nutritional management and nutritional pharmacology. It also publishes scientific work related to the development of new techniques and their application to the metabolic care of the patient.

Clinical Nutrition is the official publication for the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism.
