Common psittacine dermatologic diseases

Common psittacine dermatologic diseases can be broadly classified into infectious and noninfectious causes. Noninfectious causes include nutritional deficiencies, inherited disorders, hormonal disturbances, immune-mediated or allergic disorders, neoplasia, toxins, trauma, or behavioral abnormalities resulting in self-trauma. Infectious causes include parasites, bacteria, fungi, or viruses. Each of these causes and their respective treatments are discussed, and references are provided that elaborate further on various treatment regimens.
